Overview

Our squash clinic at Trinity College in Connecticut is led by Paul Assaiante & Rick Penders and is open to all player standards. The elite coaching staff will divide the players into leveled skilled groupings and provide individual attention to each player to help them learn new skills and techniques in squash. Along with learning new skills and techniques, the players will learn new tactics and how to best prepare for different game styles. The final phase of this clinic will allow the players to put their new found skills and tactics to the test in match play to conclude the day. About Our Coaches

Paul Assaiante

Head Squash Coach Paul Assaiante enters his 25th season as Trinity College Head Men's Squash Coach in 2018-19, after guiding the Bantams to a 19-1 record, an 11th consecutive NESCAC Championship title and their 16th College Squash Association (CSA) National Team Championship crown in recent years.

Assaiante guided Trinity to 13 consecutive CSA National titles from 1999 to 2011 and 252 wins in a row which is the longest winning streak in the history of intercollegiate varsity sports. Coach Assaiante has also recently returned to international coaching as the US Squash Coach, leading the men to a best-ever finish at the World Championship in Paderborn, Germany in '11 and the U.S. Junior Team to a best-ever 8th place finish in the 2012 World Championships in Qatar.

Assaiante’s professional athletic career was nothing short of spectacular. He was one-half of the U.S. national doubles championship duo in 1994 and captured the USSRA 50-and-over men’s squash title in 2004. Joining Assaiante will be members of the Trinity Squash Coaching Staff and Team.

Rick Penders

Rick Penders '18 joined the Trinity College Coaching Staff as an assistant coach for the 2018-19 season. Penders was a captain on Trinity's 2018 College Squash Association (CSA) National Team Championship (Potter Trophy) squad and graduated from the college this year with a degree in urban studies.  He is a seven-time Dutch Junior National Champion and remains a member of the Dutch National Team.  A three-time All-American for the Bantams, Penders compiled a 53-19 career record at Trinity playing in the top half of the varsity lineup.  Trinity men's squash, coached by Paul Assaiante, finished with a 20-0 overall record and won the CSA National Team Championship (Potter Trophy) title for the 17th time and the second year in a row in 2017-18. The Bantams, which hosted the finals at Kellner Center, downed Princeton, 8-1, edged St. Lawrence, 5-4, and defeated Harvard, 6-4, in the Potter Trophy Finals.

Camp Details

Our goal is to provide players with a variety of teachable moments. There will be great opportunities to learn on and off the court and depending on the intensity of matches, scheduled private lessons, Q&A and skill clinics, the ideal experience hinges on our unlimited access. We aim to customize all aspects of the experience in the moment as we work together to reach your goals.

Check in/out: All campers check in at 9am. Half day campers will check out at 12pm, full day campers will check out at 4pm.

Camp Overview:

Phase 1: Conditioning/Movement Technique

Phase 2: Introduction of different types of drills and exercises.

1:00 pm-4:00 pm

Phase 3: Tactics- how to deal with different game styles

Phase 4: Matchplay

Age & Ability: Camp is open to advanced players, intermediate players and beginners

Meals Provided: Campers- Lunch Only
