What’s the Typical Daily Schedule at Squash Camp Like?

Camp Squash - Girl Serving Aerial View

While we’ve recently discussed what the differences are between the five different squash camps offered this summer and have provided a nice list of what you should be packing, there are still some general questions that remain!

Depending on the type of camp you sign up for (overnight, extended day, or day camps), there is a slightly different daily schedule. It’s not going to really change how you approach camp, but it’s nice to have an idea to know what to expect upon walking in.

No matter what kind of camp you’re participating in, our coaches all have the same goals when it comes to improving certain aspects of your game. Here are the skills that we focus on throughout our ISA squash camps each summer:

  • Squash skill lessons
  • Grip
  • Drops
  • Lobs
  • Boasts
  • Drives
  • Swing mechanics
  • Court movements
  • Control of centre
  • Moving your opponent
  • Forehand
  • Backhand
  • Overhead
  • Refereeing
  • Rules and marking
  • Serves

After registering, you’ll receive a confirmation packet at least 30 days prior to your camp’s start date with all the details necessary to be properly prepared for camp. For overnight, extended day and day camps, check-in will take place between 1-2pm on the first day, while checkout will happen at 12pm on the final day.

For those attending overnight camps, here’s what a typical daily schedule looks like:

7:00am Wake-up
7:45 Breakfast
9:00 Stretching and warm-up
9:15 First Squash Session – Individual skill work
11:15 Demos
11:30 Free time, Tournament Training
12:00pm Lunch, swim
2:00 Second Squash Session – Strategy
3:00 Squash Matches
4:30 Free time, Extra help
5:30 Dinner
6:30 Off Court Offerings*

The schedule is subject to vary, but the off-court offerings can include anything from guest speakers, film analysis and sport specific conditioning to movie nights and ice cream socials.

Extended day camps are different from overnights because while there is still a long day, you’ll be heading home at night to sleep in your own bed instead of a dorm room. Once you’ve checked in, the first day of camp will run from 2-8:30pm. The full days will go from 8:45am to 8:30pm. The final day starts at 8:45am and lasts until checkout at 12pm.

Day camps are shorter than the first two offerings because this option only includes on-court instruction. If you’re unable to spend 12 hours a day with us, this is a much easier way to fit it into your schedule. The schedule is subject to change, but here’s generally what’s on the agenda:

9:00am Campers arrive; Stretching and warm-up
9:15 First Squash Session
10:15 Demos
10:30 Break
10:45 Second Squash Session
12:00pm Lunch
1:00 Third Squash Session
2:00 Squash Scrimmages
3:00 Campers depart

Any squash players participating in the elite invitational or one of our college showcase camps will check-in at 12pm on the first day and checkout at 12pm on the final day. Staying overnight in order to become immersed entirely into our program is encouraged because it provides our staff the flexibility to transition the curriculum freely throughout the week. However, we do offer a non-residential price for local players who would rather head home in the evening.

Now that you know what the daily life is like at squash camp, the next thing to do is sign up if you haven’t done so yet!
